Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman has urged relevant Verkhovna Rada committee to study his initiative to reshuffle judiciary and provide respective proposals as to its implementation at the legislative level.
At the meeting of the Conciliatory Council on Monday, Groysman noted that the Parliament had 253 appeals on dismissal of judges with their term of office about to expire, and that there were 547 judges pretending for seats on a continuing basis.
"I believe it would be very expedient to take these 800 vacancies and hold an open tender for appointment of judges. The society is waiting for honest judicial system to come up and I am confident we will manage to achieve that goal without introduction of any amendments to the Constitution, not waiting for other things done," he said.
"If the Verkhovna Rada does not vote for 547 judges, that will mean we will have 547 vacancies we will be able to hold a public tender for," Groysman said.
